Rebecca "Becky" Loring is a Graphic Designer and a lover of all things visual. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Visual Communications, but her obsession with graphics began in 1998 when she talked her way into a job at a Fine Art photography studio in Seattle. This is where she was introduced to Photoshop and Illustrator for the first time.
Originally from Bremerton, WA, Becky now lives in sunny Sarasota, FL. After her move, she became the Digital Design Manager for company that produces fine art for the interior design industry. Her work can been seen on the set of various network and cable television shows, the walls of major department stores and boutique hotels. From there, she made a jump into the commercial art industry. Since August 2013, Becky has found a home as a Graphic Designer at It Works!, a consumer lifestyle direct sales company that sells health and wellness products. Feeling very fulfilled in her new position, Becky has the chance to work on many different projects such as package design (her favorite!), large scale prints, web graphics and event photography.
My goal is to have art and design in my life on a daily basis. I want to continue to to be pushed and have the opportunity create things I never could have imagined
How long has Rebecca been Fluevogin' for?
I have been Fluevogin' for about 15 years now. It was love at first sight when my best friend's sister walked in with a pair with the cloven hoof boots. Fast forward to a couple of years later - Christmas morning - I was told by my boyfriend to go online and pick out two pairs of Fluevogs for my very own. Shortly after, I was the proud owner of some men's Angels and a pair of The Listen Up Harlow. (Side note: that boyfriend is now my husband).
How would you describe your work?:
I predominately work on different types of media via graphic design, however, I also have a passion for photography and painting. I find inspiration where you would expect to find it: art, nature, music, books, etc. and in the unexpected: my bedroom ceiling, the side of the highway, in an overflowing pot of boiling water, and mathematical equations.
On the entering the FluevogCreative contest & inspiration behind her winning ad 'The Twin':
I check in with Fluevog a lot. I always go to 'Shop > Women' on fluevog.com so quickly that I have missed any mention of FluevogCreative in the past! On my last visit, I paused on the homepage and up popped the FluevogCreative information for the LoPro. Two questions came to mind: "What is this awesomeness?" and "How could I not participate?"
The creative took a few days. "The Twins" was actually the first idea that started rolling around in my head, but I fell down the rabbit hole chasing a couple other designs before I found my way back. I knew I wanted to draw inspiration from Vaudeville print collateral, but the lengthiest part was playing around with the look of my guy and designing/illustrating the "LoPro Quest" font. From there it was a quick skip to airbrushing and layout.
Apart from being creative, what are some other areas of interest?
I also enjoy scraping wallpaper, floating in water, finding treasure in other folks trash, looking at the sky, eating cake, obsessing over the details, hugging animals and spending as much time with my family as possible - Hi Mom, Dad, Christa and Dennis!
On what the dreams and future hold for Rebecca:
My goal is to have art and design in my life on a daily basis. I want to continue to to be pushed and have the opportunity create things I never could have imagined. Outside of that, I dream about one day opening an animal shelter called the "Cat Shack," building a home that has a lazy river which will take me from room to room on an inflatable tube, never having to vacuum the floor again and most of all, continuing to support myself by doing work that I love.
Keep an eye out in Vice, Applied Arts, and Bust magazines for Rebecca's design in print.
