Begin: Vera Ellen
Designed to imitate the ease and comfort of a ballet flat, John jazzes up the Vera Ellen with a slouchy ankle boot with stylish wraparound straps on soft rubber soles and stacked tunite heels. Inspired by the graceful Vera Ellen, who danced alongside Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly for classic Hollywood musicals, this lace-up ankle boot will make you dance to the sound your own heartbeat. Made of soft pliable vegetable-tanned leathers, that are twisted and scrunched when dyed to achieve a crinkled textured appearance, The Vera Ellen boots are perfect for that hip "on my way to the dance studio" casual look. Let the Dance Begin.

These are easily the softest, most comfortable boots I own. I love the straps, they give a more distinctive look and edge to the softness of the design. The double-laces are cool in theory, but kind of a pain (they're so thin that I have broken them while tightening), but replacing with a single thicker lace solves this issue. There is really no "break in" on this boot, which I love, and the black pair I purchased last winter have held up beautifully! I have just purchased a second pair in the brown (for a more casual look) and they fit just like the first pair-- perfectly!
Thankfully they don't make these in green or blue as well or else I'd be getting a third pair!

These are great! So classic, but with extra style from the buckle straps. The flexy sole makes them extra comfortable. They fit true to size. They are close-fitting through the mid-foot but the soft leather will soon mold to fit.

So soft and comfy! I had to size up quite a bit - I usually wear 9.5 in boots and wound up getting a 10.5. The toes are a bit pointy and I have a wider foot so I think that had something to do with it. But they took zero breaking in and the leather is buttery and awesome. Looking forward to many years with these!

A perfect mix of safari-adventurin'-dusty-ancient-library-searchin'-cobblestone-street-poundin'-Indiana-Jones-stylin'-awesomeness. And Canadian to boot (pun intended)!
The leather is so soft, the fit is perfect, the colour is gorgeous, the shipping was super-fast and the communication throughout was top drawer.
I'm not a shoe person, but I'm fetishizing the crap out of these. Thanks so much!

Checking in, four months later
Quick note to say that, now that the rainy Oregon fall is here (and moving into winter), I am, indeed, wearing these almost daily, and still in love. The leather is starting to acquire a nicely worn look, the comfort is superb - and when I wear them with mid-calf skirts, tights and hand knitted socks peeking over the boot, people stop me on the sidewalk to say "Oooooh, great boots."
This is my first ever pair of fluevogs, and won't be my last. I have a wide foot and a high arch so you can imagine it's really hard for me to find shoes. These fit fantastically after a slight stretch, the sales person was so helpful!
I needed a great pair of boots to go with dresses and slacks alike when I am out and about Vancouver, and they do. Love the length, and the straps are a fantastic detail. For a girl with hard to fit feet, they are a dream come true.

My new default boots
I hit the Seattle store in July, hoping to take advantage of the big sale, but found nothing in my size ... until the sales person pointed me at the Vera Ellen, just in, not even on the Website yet.
Wow. What a comfortable, good-looking boot. Love the straps. Love the butter-soft leather. Even in the heat of summer, I've been wearing them (with hand-knitted socks, turned down over the tongue) on cooler days. I can hardly wait till fall to start wearing them every day.

Everything you ever wanted in a boot.
This boot fits wonderfully! True to size each and every way. The leather is soft and easily stretched around the width of my foot. The boot comes to a rounded point, so it runs a little long, but not too long. I am not tripping for my toes what so ever. The style is very androgynous, and looks great with tight slacks. A must have for Fall!
