Worth the Process

When I went to the FV store I had my heart set on the Earl of Warwick Coventry boots. But I needed something that would stand up to some snow and still look good on a motorcycle, and once I tried those on, it was clear those were much more dressy and not to be mucked up, so I tried a few more options and came to these. First of all, sizes run very big. I'm usually a men's 7.5 - 8 and ended up working my way down to a 6. I may have even been able to swing a 5.5, which makes me feel a little emasculated. The sole is sort of bouncy and super comfortable and the main reason I have several pairs of FV. (Note that the Warwicks have a different - less bouncy sole) When I wore them out the first time, I was pretty disappointed, the ankle area - where the leather needs to "break" was excruciating. I couldn't walk in them for more than ten minutes. I almost returned them. I consulted a horse-riding friend who told me she takes a few showers wearing her boots to break them in and get them shaped to her foot, so I gave that a try, which worked like a charm. Now they're like wearing smooth leather gloves in my feet. Here is what I did: Wear them in the shower - or a few if you take shorter showers - you will feel like a porn star being naked with boots on - don't wear socks (ew) and lace them up tightly. Once they're fully soaked (yes the soles will get squashy) do some squats and bends and whatnot so everything bends around your foot the right way. After your shower's done, if there are still spots that poke or rub the wrong way, take the handle of a brush and massage those area's from the inside to stretch the leather just a little bit more while it's all still wet. It will take a day or two to dry, but it's more than worth it.

Although we are glad you were able to break in your Patent Bill boots using the shower method, we suggest you use this method only on Patent Bill boots. Fluevog discourages customers on using this approach on other styles, or other leathers in this style as it could ruin the leather and structure of the style.

delicious

my first pair of fluevogs! among my ragtag assortment of ankle boots, these easily tower over them. they go perfectly with your all black mcqueen/pugh/demeulemeester-inspired outfits without looking like a cheap mall goth. love them! it definitely takes a long time to get them off and on though! a previous review reiterating that it takes about 10 minutes was NOT exaggerating at all. time is money and its expensive putting these on! other than that, the shop had some great sales associates who weren't awkwardly in your face the whole time. i like a store who can balance customer service without being bubbly tarts. the toronto store didn't have black patent ones in my size so i tried on the gray nubuck version just to get a fit. i must say the black patent finish is MUCH more attractive than the gray. overall great shoes, great shopping experience!

These are beautiful, comfortable and high quality boots. It is great to have high boots available for men. Many people have commented on how much they like these boots. Great design and good value. I hope Fluevog will make more high boots for guys.

Wore these to a Halloween party and they ROCKED the house. People kept asking me where I got these shoes. They got more comfortable as the evening went on(the shoes, not the people ) Uber-flexible boots. You can wear 'em out for Halloween or other "special occasions" or throw the pants legs over them for those "business meetings". Awesome.

Excellent boots!

I had these on when I walked into my friend's kitchen. She was on the phone with her boy, and I heard her say "I have to go, Anselm just walked in and he's wearing f*ck me boots. No, let me take that back: he's wearing f*ck me up boots!" And that's why I love these things! Great for the bar, great for tooling around on heavy and dangerous vehicles, super comfy and dead sexy. My second Fluevogs, and favorites so far! Take a while to put on, but certainly worth the effort!

Awesometastic

My husband got these shoes and he says they are awesometastic! Actually, he says they look great and feel even better, they are the most comfortable shoes he owns. I say, thank goodness he's found boots he loves that are actually attractive, as opposed to the ugly Doc Martins from his college days that he used to pine for.

Ready to stomp out

I got these in the black patent; awesome! They are comfortably wide enough and feel good in the foot. The shaft is a little stiff at first, but should soften up with wear. These are my second Fluevogs; I'm looking forward to the fall!

Love the boots

This is my third pair of fluevogs and I have to say how much I love these boots. I would say that they definitely need to have some time putting them on to make sure that they are tight etc. I have to loosen the laces all the way since i have big calves.

Requires advance planning

I just received my pair of patent leather beauties. They are EXTREMELY comfortable and a bit stiff. I hope they soften up over time. I ordinarily wear a size 9 in Fluevogs and ordered these unisex boots in size 7. They fit perfectly with a thick tweed ankle sock. So far, so good. You should know, however, that these boots warrant a note of caution: advance preparation is required to wear these boots, and you definitely DON'T want to be caught in a compromising situation with these boots off, followed by the need to quickly get them back on. There is NO way to easily put your foot in and pull the boot on unless they are almost COMPLETELY unlaced. You have to unlace all but the last two holes to get them OFF. Lacing them up all the way requires about 10 minutes. Can you see the problem? Anyway, these are great boots and they look wonderful with a knee-length skirt or pair of shorts and I can honestly see myself wearing them everywhere - to work, to the gym, doing errands. The "boys" and the old men that I see during the work seek will certainly hate them. And that's just an added bonus.
