SENIOR ACCESSORIES DESIGNER & DEVELOPER

ABOUT THE JOB:
This is a full time position. The Senior Accessories Designer & Developer will drive the accessories development process from concept through to product confirmation, ensuring brand integrity and outstanding product quality. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of the accessories business and marketplace, a strong design aesthetic, high level of creativity, and a broad understanding of construction and materials.
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:
• Work closely with the Design Director to initiate concepts each season that are brand relevant and reflect a connection with the footwear collections; merchandizing the accessories collection to insure that it is balanced in terms of product, materials, silhouette, and price point.
• Research and implement trends, new constructions, and material processes in order to help identify current and future collection needs.
• Create technical product specifications using knowledge of materials and accessories construction.
• Coordinate with Production to allocate projects to appropriate factories using development capabilities, costing and production capacities as criteria.
• Direct communication with vendors, ensuring that projects are proceeding according to timelines, and that specs are being translated properly.
• Constant management of product changes; maintenance of accurate records and product documentation, furnishing relevant departments with accurate, timely project information.
• Development, layout and sourcing of seasonal materials, color palette, trims, hardware, and subsequent sample requests.
• Ensure accuracy in fit, function, quality and pricing.
• Confirmation of sales samples, and approval of production confirmation.
• Partner with Retail Department to insure proper product display within retail stores, as well as communication of product information to retail sales team.
• Mentor and assist junior designers & developers as applicable.
• International travel to trade show and factories as necessary, approx 4-8 times per year.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Prefer minimum of 6 years experience in handbag design.
• Must possess a strong fashion sense and ability to forecast trends.
• High level of proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign. 3D modeling knowledge is a plus.
• BA or MA in Industrial Design, Fashion Design, or Fine Art. Must have strong sketching skills, attention to detail, and ability to prepare specs on the computer.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are required.
• Successful project management skills and the ability to work independently is essential.
• Ability to understand, assess and problem solve by leveraging technical and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with the development process as it relates to working with overseas factories and vendors.
•Must be able to travel internationally.
