January 2011 - John Fluevog Shoes
John Fluevog Shoes first opened its doors forty years ago on the West Coast. Ten years after that, to the day, l.a. Eyeworks burst onto the scene on legendary Melrose Avenue. Coincidence? Impossible. Since then, scholars have unanimously held true that if l.a. Eyeworks made footwear, they would look like Fluevogs and vice versa. |

As a young kid, John Fluevog refused to wear his eyeglasses, preferring
to walk into patio glass doors rather than compromise his already then
good looks. It wasn't until meeting his hip spectacled high school
science teacher Benny Franklin, that John realized all the cool kids
wore custom eyeglasses (and experimented with electricity).
As a teenager he experimented with vintage (his parent's) frames.
Thankfully, this time John collaborated with l.a. Eyeworks' co-owners
Barbara McReynolds and Gai Gherardi, leaving the beautifully crafted
eyeglass construction to them. What you are gazing upon now is the sole
vision and cahootification of these two strong and free organizations
embodied in a pair of eyeglasses so Fluevogianly l.a. Eyeworks that we
were held to making 70 pairs - a single pair for every year the
companies have existed. |

Each individual frame's number along with John's handwritten "Sole
Vision" is printed on the inside temple, on a gorgeous frame of
checkered black and translucent Fluevog Red. The Sole Vision Dub comes
with a custom cloth and case, and the eyeglasses are made in a limited
edition of 70 pairs, the combined number of years the companies have
been in business. Lastly, each frame contains a special TSA-approved
x-ray lens that allows you to see through brick walls and the Emperor's
new clothes (patent pending & mostly untrue).
The Limited
Edition Eyeglass is sold only through l.a. Eyeworks retail stores in Los Angeles and at Fluevog stores across Canada and the United States.

Established in 1979 as the first house of optical design in Los Angeles,
l.a.Eyeworks' imaginative and uniquely crafted frames are collected by
eyeglass lovers worldwide. Designed by the company's co-owners, Gai
Gherardi and Barbara McReynolds, l.a.Eyeworks' glasses are made from the
finest materials in spectacular shapes and compelling colors. While
"conforming to no style" is the manifestation, it is the face -- in all
its astonishing diversity -- that is the inspiration. With its signature
tagline "A face is like a work of art. It deserves a great frame.", the
l.a.Eyeworks portrait ad campaign has featured over 200 famous faces
wearing glasses, including Frank Zappa, RuPaul, Andy Warhol, Debbie
Harry, and John Waters. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, and fiercely
proud of its independence, l.a.Eyeworks aspires to its time-honored
catchphrase "Uncensored Visions" by offering unusual treasures that
change the way people think about eyewear.
