October 29, 2012 - John Fluevog Shoes

In the glorious year of 1902, a young, blond-haired, cherub-faced 22 year old Norwegian named Nicolas Nelsin moved to the promised land of Minnesota. He was impressed by the spaciousness of the land and sky; feeling at home during the snowy winters and bountiful summers. For several years Nicolas set up shop in Minnesota, only returning to Norway to collect his wife Gina Hunningsvog and their three children.

It was when Nicolas returned to the golden lands of Minnesota that he decided to change his name to distinguish himself from the many other Norwegian settlers with the ultra-popular surname Nelsin. Naming himself after the tiny fishing hamlet of Fluevog, Norway where he originated from, Nicolas and Gina became the World's first Fluevogs! It was during this time that Mr. & Mrs. Fluevog continued to rekindle their romance by going on dates to watch movies at the glamourous Uptown Theatre in Minneapolis.

Many years later, Nicolas and Gina Fluevog homesteaded in Canada where John's father Sigurd was born, establishing the Fluevog dynasty. Sadly in 1934, Gina died from influenza, and Nicholas died a few months later from heartbreak.

After a hundred years, John Fluevog has finally found the perfect retail space to return his namesake back to Minnesota! Aiming to have the doors open for the holiday season (November 2012), John Fluevog Minneapolis will occupy a gorgeous space in the heritage Uptown Theatre at the corner of Hennepin and Lagoon Avenues. Minneapolis has long been a target city for John Fluevog Shoes as it has always held a special place in John's heart, especially after he was crowned Homecoming King at the Nelsin Family Reunion in 1970.

John's new Minnepolis retail space is in the restored and recently-opened heritage Uptown Theatre, that is about to celebrate its hundredth birthday! Reflecting John's positive and bright messages, the space will be completely Fluevogified with art-deco inspired furniture with teak panels sharing the same colour schemes as the original Uptown Theatre, perfect for a relaxing shopping experience among the most unique shoes in the World. There is also a rumour that John has plans to be a mystery actor during one of the midnight Rocky Horror performances at The Uptown.

It certainly won't be long now, and we can't wait to finally open. See you on Saturday, November 10th!!
