Morgan Krieg is a budding artist and student originally from Kalispell, Montana. Currently in the middle of her degree in Illustration and Entertainment Art at the Northwest College of Art and Design, Morgan is excited to be on the brink of what promises to be a bright future.

Can you tell us a bit about your background as an artist?

As far as I can remember, I was a creating various things from drawings, clay charms, even a little textile work, but my background as an artist seriously began when I enrolled in the Northwest College of Art and Design in Washington state. I moved out there from my hometown of Kalispell, Montana when I decided the cowboy life just wasn’t for me. I am set to graduate in September and am excited to officially become a productive member of society.Morgan Krieg French Cider Tasting Poster

How did you hear about FluevogCreative?

I heard about Fluevog Creative from one of my dearest professors Susan who first mentioned the contest to our class a few semesters ago. When she mentioned it, she hadn’t realized the deadline was actually the next day but she implored us to do it anyway. Miraculously, myself and two of my friends actually went on to become finalists! Though none of us won that particular entry, I think we all got the taste of the sweet thrill of competition (much like the gladiators of old). From there on out, I have been entering every round, throwing my hat in the ring, and today that persistence paid off!Morgan Krieg Holi garden Festival Ibiza Poster

How long have you been Fluevogin’ for?

I like to think I have been Fluevogin’ my whole life spiritually, but I am excited to finally manifest that energy physically, perhaps into a pair of shoes that I can actually wear and represent the brand with for years to come.

What was the inspiration behind your piece,“East End Shoebox”?

The inspiration behind “East End Shoebox” actually comes from the old nursery rhyme about the little old lady that lived in a shoe. The East End Porter reminded me of a swankier version of the ones in my old picture books, so it gave me the inspiration to make this shoe house a little more modern and stylish. Since the shoe was set to be released in fall I also wanted to bring a more muted autumn color scheme to compliment the shoe. Overall I wanted to create a picture that was cozy and familiar.

Tell us a bit about your creative process

My creative process generally begins with about a thousand sketches that aren’t so good and a couple that may end up working. From there, peer review and input from others is key to a great illustration. An extra set of eyes can do wonders picking out areas of improvement, so surrounding yourself with people you trust to be honest is a great tool to have. When you break down the illustration you are doing about 30% of your time should be basic blocking in of shapes and colors. The last 70% is polish. Polish is what makes a good illustration great. Refining, and then refining some more is what will set you apart from other artists since it will show you can go the distance in your craft when others are saying to themselves “good enough”.Morgan Krieg Encryptions by Daft Punk Poster

Apart from art and design, what do you like to do for fun?

Fun is something I haven’t really been able to have lately, what with school and all. I do remember I liked playing video games and hanging out with my dad in the great outdoors. I also love to watch old TV sitcoms and B-rated horror films. An old soul through and through!
