Great, but wide and plan for a break-in period
For reference, I've owned multiple pairs of Michaels, Racers, etc., and have owned the Gibson Swirl boot in the past. These fit wider than any of my previous pairs. It's not unworkable, but if (like me) you have narrow feet, these will be really roomy. Even with an extra insole, I have to pull the laces until the lace stays are completely touching. They've also required a much longer break-in than any of my previous pairs, as the leather is quite stiff. That being said, now that mine have broken in (somewhat, after about 15 wears), they are getting more comfortable, but I can only wear them with relatively thick socks. As far as style, construction, etc., they are fabulous, just as you'd expect from Fluevog's, but the fit is not as good as previous models.

I wish I had gotten a half size up because they hurt my feet if I wear them too long/ walk long ish distances. At first I thought they just needed to be broken in but they are well worn now and still do. I think sizing up would fix that but it was too late for me. I still love and wear them but it has been taxing on my feet. Also I’ve had them I think around six months and the stitching around the toe is coming undone and the sole seems to be beginning to pop off. To be fair I’ve been wearing them like everyday but for the price I expected a more durable shoe. Nevertheless I think they are awesome and love them.

Gosh, I love these. The colors are even more cheerful in person and they are the perfect shoes for spring. They look and feel great and are really a steal at this price. ❤️

Mood Enhancer
These shoes are so hard to be grumpy or sad in. They are brilliant and beautiful and full of joy. They are also incredibly comfortable, for the most part. On their maiden voyage, I struggled with the edge of the back heel slipping and rubbing against my calcaneus. I bought the shoe a half a size up from my regular size 10W Big, as the kind Fluevogist Petra measured the insole, only to find I would have cramped toes in a 10W. While the length is amazing, my narrow heel slips and slides and rubs against the back of the shoe-nice and stiff that heel leather is, durable. So I put so heel protectors back there, and now the shoe feels amazing. The overall width is wider than I am used to, but narrow my feet are, rather abnormally so. The insole is incredibly comfy like a trainer/sneaker... But much more fun and elegant. I sprayed them with protectant and they have been keeping up rather nicely.

Side walls are too high
I love these shoes. I ordered burgundy, and they are just as promised. They are sturdy but not too heavy. The inside fit is delightful. EXCEPT. The sides of the shoes are too high and rub up against the bone that protrudes from my ankle (called the lateral malleolus, I just learned!). I tried socks of different heights and thickness, but can't get around the fact that the very sturdy and very high side walls (for lack of a better name) of these shoes make them impossible to walk in. I'm very sad, but have to return them. If there's a version of the Gibson with lower side walls, I'm all in!

Thank you for your review of the Gibson Swirl shoes! We're sorry to hear these are giving you some ankle-rub. Some styles do this to me as well, and I have tried many hacks to relieve abrasion on my poor lateral malleolus(I love that you looked this up!). The best solution for me is an insert/insole. I use a 3/4 Superfeet insert and this is my favourite. It lifts my heels up and provides extra support for my heel and arch as well. A win-win-win!
Long timer
I got my first pair of Fluevogs in September of 1984, at the fall sale in downtown Vancouver. I was introduced by a coworker. I picked up a pair of tan Gibson swirls and LIVED THEM. I literally wore them every day. They were so easy to style up or down and went with everything. I wore them out in 4 years, so had to go back for a replacement pair, which I did. (Tan again.. I am pretty conservative!) I wore those ones out too, so back I went again. Also, my tan Gibson swirls were no longer available. My only option were there red and black ones. And here were are, some 20 or so years later and I still have those red shoes. The sticking disintegrated where the toe meets the body , so I need to get to a shoemaker to have that repaired. The soles are a little worn , but I still LOVE THEM. I would love another tan pair.. keep hoping they may come back, but will continue to wear my red ones until they can’t be worn any longer. Thanks for making such great shoes.. and please bring back the tan Gibson Swirl! 👋🏻👋🏻👞

Even cuter in person!
I kept looking at these. I finally broke down and ordered them two days before the sale! :( I requested the Washington store honor the 15% off but they wouldn’t. Oh well...the shoes are even cuter in person and so very comfortable.

Dazzling
I’d been waiting for months for these to arrive in Orchid but they are worth the wait. Gorgeous suede upper and day-glo soles and laces, as comfortable as trainers but a whole lot smarter. I’m an EU 39 and the 8.5 fit perfectly. Now I just need to resist the orange. And the beige...

Everyday splendor
I wear these everywhere.
They aren't as vibrant as I'd imagined, but comfortable after I wore them many times. They go with everything, I can be super casual and know that my feet are low key fashionistas.
