Born in Madrid in 1843 to Sicilian Opera Singers, Patti Adelina was brought up listening to the most complex and difficult operettas. During her childhood, Patti's family moved to the Bronx, and at the age of 16 debuted her career at the New York Academy of Music. Known for her warm and satiny soprano vocals, Adelina then crossed the Atlantic to conquer Europe with her gorgeous voice and girlish good looks. In 1862, Adelina sang Home, Sweet Home at the White House with such emotion that it reduced President Lincoln and his wife Mary to tears.
