Miriam Martincic

mm-w-pupsMiriam Martincic is an artist and illustrator with a BFA in fine art and an MFA in sculpture. Despite this, she cites yoga, dance and living with dogs as having as big an influence on her work as much as anything she ever learned in school. After spending over fifteen years carving stone, she became a graphic designer and currently flexes her creative muscles exploring digital drawing while she works as a freelance illustrator and designer.

How did you hear about FluevogCreative?

I recently posted pictures of The Scheme and Spellbound on Facebook with a note, “Before I die, I MUST have these shoes!” A veteran Fluevoger friend messaged me shortly after with a link to the creative brief. Ask and you shall receive, right?MM-1What was the inspiration behind your piece, “The Game is Afoot”?

I wanted to create a completely visual ad for the Enneagram Investigator that plays on the design choices of the shoe and its name. The entire drawing is based on the shoe – the color scheme, the bold white stitches, the heel-shaped dachshund paws, the private eye and her steadfast partner, the enneagram diagram on the notebook, and the Fluevog-logo inspired jean pocket design.

Tell us a bit about your creative process

Process in general: Draw every day. Hone my judgment. Develop my vision. Pay attention to what moves me.

Process for the Investigator: Curl up on the couch with the dogs and my new iPad Pro. Have fun. Add an occasional French gimlet.

MM-2How long have you been Fluevogin’ for?

I’m new to Fluevog and more of a shoe-stalker than a Fluevoger. (I have my heart set on The Find as my first acquisition.) I love the unbridled funkiness of Fluevog designs—unexpected colors, playful details, sculpted heels. The first time I saw Fluevogs, my reaction was, “Those foot-sculptures belong in one of my drawings!”

MM-3Apart from art and design, what do you like to do for fun?

I love to dance tango. I hike regularly with my husband and our dog Henri in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I enjoy classic cocktails but never drink alone because a small black dog is on my lap.
