Reduce, Reuse, Recycled soles: a bit about our (carbon) footprint

Over the last few years, The Fluevog Design Team has been increasingly active in researching all kinds of ways we can reduce our carbon footprint. Ironically, it’s precisely been the composition of many of our soles and insoles where they’ve been able to find ways to reduce and reuse without compromising on quality, performance or good looks.

Developed by a very special, family run sole factory in Portugal, our 100% recycled thermoplastic rubber soles are made using factory waste materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Because these soles are made up of the offcuts from all kinds of other soles and rubber parts in a variety of different colours, the resulting product is always black.

Our EcoRubber soles also utilize factory waste materials but benefit even more so from being weather resistant and a little more esthetically convertible. You’ll find many of them on our Official Family styles as well as others and they are composed of 70% recycled content. Some of them even feature different coloured recycled bits so that no two soles are exactly the same.

Several Spring/Summer ’21 Families, including our 7th Heavens, Guardian Angels, LoPros, Officials and Urban Angels further feature OrthoLite Hybrid insoles which provide long term cushioning, breathability and are made from 20% recycled factory waste products. It’s like John has always said, “good soles leave small prints (no matter what your shoe size)”.
