[This story first appeared in Issue 15 of The Fluevog Post (Fall/Winter 2020)]
There was a family named Bellevue that lived on a street in Vogville. They lived right next door to the Super Fine family where Eminence and her Superdog lived in beautiful harmony.
They were of all different colours and soles but each was an important contributor to the overall positive vibe of Vogville. No one in Vogville thought they were better or worse than anyone else. Instead, they all knew that each of them had been made beautifully and were all valuable members of the society of Vogville. Over the Entrance of the Bellevue family home stood the number 502 proudly displayed and everyone knew what that number stood for.
The Bellevues had been pioneers who had pressed westward with faith to see if there was a home for them out west. They settled for a winter in Vogville and never left. They felt comfortable in Vogville. They knew that though they were not all the same, they were a collection of very different people all made perfectly in the image of their creator.
On this day Ella Baker, one of the more rebellious of the Bellevue family, was going out for a stroll. She was always ready for action (both good and bad) but in the end had a great heart and always tried to be helpful to all. As she walked on the boulevard, who should she meet but her neighbour, the lovely Eminence from the Super Fine family and her dog Superdog. Ella petted Superdog who nuzzled up next to her. Superdog was such a good fit in Vogville and always seemed to make everyone happy. The three of them strolled together down Pine Street until they arrived at the saloon at 205 Pine and decided to go in and cool their thirsty tongues.
Inside were all the usual suspects. Ace Face was playing cards looking for someone to deal to, Petrella was on stage singing “Your love makes me sing” from her favourite Operetta and Investigator was reading Bekkie’s Enneagram. Her Enneagram, as you might imagine, always told the Truth.
After ordering drinks from the bar, Henk from the stables came in and sat by himself as he was a stand out person that liked to stand alone, sort of like a farmer who is out standing in his field. Suddenly, in came Monika who was on a Mission to see life after death and the whole saloon erupted with chairs and tables flying in all directions. This kerfuffle did not stop until Mellow floated in with her easy elegance and calmed the riotous scene down.
It was just another example to show all of Vogville that it was good to be Prepared. In the end, they knew that they were all in it together and that love would always Rule the day.
They all walked back down Pine Street to rest and get ready for another great day in Vogville.
