Dave Benedict is a man of many talents, being not only an excellent photographer and graphic designer, he is also a musician and plays bass in the band Default. He has created Square Egg Visions, a creative company that encompasses all the creative aspects that musicians would use to market themselves: studio photography, live photography, styling, and graphic design. When he isn’t creating amazing portraits and designs, Dave spends time with his wife and two children, or attending classes at VCAD.
What you do:
I’ve always been a visual person, but until recently I’ve mainly conveyed it through my music. I’m a musician, I play bass in the band Default. I’m also a graphic designer and photographer. I wanted another outlet, graphic design hit the nail on the head. I love that I can be creative not just through sound but also through visual art.
On entering the FluevogCreative contest:
I entered FluevogCreative as an assignment for a school project (VCAD). One that I was happy to do and pleased to be a part of.
On how long it took for Dave to design his winning creative:
The creative took a couple days to find the perfect building to take a picture of, it took me another night for photographing the subject and other elements in the photo. It took me another day in total compositing and editing the design.
On the inspiration behind his winning ad The Shoes You Take Everywhere:
I have two small children that I pull lots of inspiration from as I find that children make the greatest artists, their imaginations have no boundaries and they are fearless. For this design specifically I was inspired by old Bugs Bunny cartoons, anvils and piano’s dropping on peoples heads.
On what the dreams and future hold for Dave Benedict:
To be able to create til the day I die. To make what’s in my head become a reality.
