Jenna Gonzalez

Jenna Gonzalez

Jenna is currently studying Graphic Design at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. As well as being an extremely talented designer, Jenna spends most of her free time in the Ceramic Studio creating pottery, in the kitchen baking delicious and unique desserts, or out in the woods hiking and biking.

I was recently introduced to Fluevog when I was given an assignment to design an ad for "Madam Curie" in my publication design class. Now that I have fallen in love with Fluevog shoes, I am sure I will be Fluevogin' for the rest of my life!

On who inspires her:

Someone who I admire in the Graphic Design industry is Mirko Iliæ. He recently gave a lecture at Moravian College and was very inspiring with his words . A prominent point he stressed that stuck with me, was if you want something, no matter what it is, you have the power to make it happen. He said as long as you keep putting your work out there, eventually someone will notice it. Ever since I heard him speak, I have been compelled and inspired to create important and meaningful work, and not be afraid to share it with the rest of the world.

On entering the FluevogCreative contest:

I first began designing the ad as a result of the assignment I was given to create ads for "Madam Curie" in my publication design class. But once I started working on this project I truly became inspired by the shoes and their individuality, and am now officially a Fluevog addict!

Curie

On the inspiration behind her winning ad Curie:

I felt compelled by how Fluevog sets itself apart from other shoe companies and designers, both past and present. I wanted to create a simple typographic design to focus on the complexity and beauty of the shoe. In our media-saturated world we are constantly bombarded with a variety of ads from flashy to focused. The ones that grab my attention are very simplistic, clever, and straight to the point. Most of my design ideas are conceptual. I fully investigate lots of possibilities in order to attract the attention of my audience.

I was lying in bed one night a few days after the assignment was given to our class, thinking about the project. I thought about how shoes are manufactured and then sold in a box. I think “Madam Curies” are far too extraordinary to be constricted by a little cardboard box. After coming up with dozens of sayings about "shoes” and “boxes", I thought of "for the soul who thinks outside the box." The actual process of completing this design took about two weeks in order to get every detail just right.

On what the dreams and future hold for Jenna Gonzalez:

Besides graphic design, I love to bake and decorate desserts. After college I hope to study culinary arts in baking and incorporate my creative design work into baking. My goal is to own my own bakery where I will create uniquely designed desserts. I will also continue to produce graphic design. I also enjoy traveling, photography, playing sports, riding bikes, hiking, ceramics, and spending much of my free time with my family and friends.

Keep an eye out in Bust, Juxtapoz, Scoot, Filter and Wax Poetic magazines for Jenna's winning design in print.
