Embrace Your Signature

Description

Drawing and embroidery on handmade mixed media collage background were my technique choices today, and are increasingly becoming my signature style. I have a history with quilting & embroidery and more presently, do a lot of mixed media art journaling, so these are the styles I feel are very much mine. As for the portfolio, I saw a certain punk esthetic in the Shaguar Dorritie, and reflected it in the grungy painting style, the use of punchinella as a stencil and the use of magazine cut letters in the word Embrace. I loved the Cherry model of the shoe, but decided to go for a black and white drawing this time, reflecting the vivid colour of the Cherry in my background colour choices instead. After embroidering Peculiarity, I loved how the end of the thread swirled, and it reminded me of how much fun I had trying to imitate John's signature on the shoe heel - the wild end of the Y a bit like the end of his G! I thought a bit of extra swirl will suit fine in a Fluevog ad - also an homage to the Derby Swirls - so I left the needle attached on the paper for a peculiar twist.
