Whitney’s submission was used for a line in late Spring 2003. His pattern had been designed for, and was destined to be, a Seventh Heaven Angel. However, at the last minute, John thought that it’s asymmetrical lines were more conducive to a new family called “Urban Angels”. When asked about Fluevog and his Chosen submission, Whitney replied:
Over a decade ago I walked into Fluevog NYC, I walked out with a style and presence that I didn’t have before. Since then I have walked the soles off a couple pair of Vogs and loved every step.
In my life I have always attempted to be an artist. For the “Whitney” I only attempted to create what was not in my closet. I have to say that it is a very soulful feeling knowing that your idea has been embraced by Fluevoger’s the world over. Having said that, the re-design of the “Whitney” seemed quite extreme. Although the finished product is definitely something that was not in my closet it doesn’t quite meet the desire for something I wanted in my closet. Maybe one of my other submissions will be the next Chosen!
I am a veteran of the snow sports industry and while still holding onto my dream of being an artist I spend my days as a manager of a national buying group.
In the end I never thought it would be so gratifying to have people everywhere walking all over my idea!
