The Fluevog store in Amsterdam is home to a number of exceptional highlights. Delightful staff, historical charm, beautiful décor and general ecstasy radiates through the walls of Heiligeweg 37. But perhaps the most eye-catching new element appears right up front. Cascading across the doorway within our front windows lies a custom piece designed and built by Patrick Jones. Inspired by old-fashioned toy-making and assembly lines, The Fluevog Whirlygig is a moving representation of John’s imagination, albeit, perhaps more straightforward. See it with your own eyes the next time you find yourself in Holland!
“Shoemaking is a lost art. Traditionally, shoes were made beginning to end by one person and serviced by the same maker. It was a combination of art and skill using specialized hand tools and machinery to create pairs of shoes, tailored and made by hand to the customer’s foot.
In time, the shoes became part of the people wearing them, giving them a way to express their own footprint in life — literally and figuratively.
The Fluevog Whirlygig is Fluevog’s nod to the rich history of individual shoes being made one by one through various stages of craftsmanship.*
Though the tools and processes have progressed over the years, we continue to embrace peculiarity and create our unique soles one step at a time.”

*Maybe even some that involved the assistance of elves who lived in secret up the stairs and in the attics of shoemakers everywhere.
