Fluevog Shoe Care: Resoling and Repairs

While our soles may be most famous for imparting John’s musings and Fluevogian wisdom, they’re also crucial in providing protection, traction, and comfort for your feet. Expertly crafted by skilled shoemakers around the world, Fluevogs are built to enjoy many fabulous years of weird adventures. That being said, proper sole care and repairs when needed, helps ensure your Fluevogs are always fit for the journey ahead. Fortunately, whether they need to be re-glued, restitched, or resoled, a good cobbler can often have your Vogs feeling like new.

Can all Fluevog shoes be resoled?

No, not all Fluevog shoes can be resoled — it depends on the type of construction. Shoes crafted using a Goodyear welt like our Modvog family, or a Blake stitch like our Twin Turbine and Idol families are usually easily resoled. Some Fluevogs built with a Cemented construction such as our 7th Heaven family (which features John’s iconic Angel soles) and Voggettes family, can also be resoled in the hands of a skilled cobbler. Other types of shoe constructions — Strobel and Vulcanized, for example — are not typically resoleable.

Okay, but how do I know if my Fluevogs are resoleable?

Search for your shoes on our website and check out their product detail page! Most will mention the type of construction used to craft your shoes. Some product detail pages may also explicitly note whether a shoe is ‘resoleable’ or ‘reheelable’ next to the sole and heel material lines respectively. Can’t find your shoes online or still unsure whether your shoes can be resoled? Feel free to reach out to your local Fluevog store or contact us and we’ll be happy to help!

When do my shoes need resoling?

Shoes can typically last 2-3 years without needing to be resoled. Some signs to watch out for that indicate your shoes may need repairing are holes in your soles, loose or broken pieces of the sole, exposed inner layers such as the footbed, worn treads that can lead to loss of traction and shock absorption, or uneven wear that may cause discomfort. It’s important to inspect the condition of your soles occasionally to avoid causing further damage potentially leading to more difficult, and likely more costly, repairs down the road.
