Our fan favo(u)rite Rigas boot is making its sculptural debut this May thanks to the creative mind of Richard Heikkilä-Sawan, an upcoming Fine Arts graduate from Emily Carr University Audain School of Visual Arts.
Richard, whose work regularly deals with Aboriginal themes pertaining to race and identity issues, will be showcasing a piece called My Spirits Soar, a self-portrait that references two-spirited individuals within the Aboriginal community. The now retired Rigas boot, along with a collection of other materials, come together to create a piece that values honesty, transparency and vulnerably.
Richard’s piece will be up in the Concourse Gallery during The Show at Emily Carr from May 3rd-17th, 2015.
