Fluevog framed: Fresh sunnies from Canada’s footwear king

Fashion lives in a time warp. New bathing suits arrive at stores in the middle of winter, sales begin halfway through the holiday shopping season when you’re actually willing to splurge and if you want to know what you’ll be wearing in nine months, log on to style.com yesterday.

The Eyewear industry keeps a similarly wacky schedule. January and sunglasses seem to go together like July and Canada Goose but here come summer’s new shades anyways.

On Tuesday, Vancouver-based John Fluevog shoes announced a partnership with L.A. Eyeworks and the release of a limited edition Sole Vision frame ($220, 242 Queen West, 416-581-1420). How limited? Only 70 pairs have been created and distributed between the two companies’ shops in Canada and the U.S.

The red acetate style has a wide, squared off shape that will probably work best on longer faces. Their checkerboard pattern pays homage to Fluevog’s rockabilly roots and the graduated lenses are an ultra violet colour.

The glasses are the final collaboration in a series of mash ups to mark the company’s 40th birthday. Other pieces in the lineup have included a necktie created with New York-based One Way One Bright Pass and a digital NOOKA watch.
