Brittany So is a Vancouver-based, Singapore-raised illustrator/designer whose interests lie in community and building meaningful relationships through art and strategies in design. Communication, experimentation, and collaboration are what drive her to create.
Fun fact: At one point in her life, she ate a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream every single day for ten weeks straight. Unfortunately, the feat was never recorded.
How long have you been Fluevogin’ for?
I had first heard about Fluevog when John himself was speaking at Coastal Regeneration back in 2012. And after discovering them, I’ve always wanted a pair of my own.
On entering the contest and her winning design, “Wearever Shukran”:
The word “shukran” holds a very special place in my heart. It accompanied me along my backpacking adventures around the Middle East and provided me with warmth and shelter throughout. The word was what compelled me to enter this contest, since it brings so many heartwarming memories and also brings to mind people in my life that I am thankful for. For the design, I wanted to, instead of focusing on the consumer, focus on giving thanks to those who make the shoes. From the designer, to those who tirelessly put all the pieces together like magic. Without them, we wouldn’t get the opportunity to wear these awesome shoes!
Apart from art and design, what do you like to do for fun?
I like to go on long adventures in different parts of the world and at home as well. Be it backpacking, hiking, biking or camping, nature is all I need. I also love just sinking in the couch with one or two friends and having intentional conversation with (of course) ice cream at hand. This year I started a vegetable garden, and it has been such a joy watching them thrive, but also a pain to watch them get demolished by bugs.
What are your dreams?
My dream is to be able to do what I love, all day, everyday. I would love to be traveling and making art at the same time, and creating a space where others get to make art together.
