In Merida for the tail end of their trip, the Fluevog C-Quest team kicked things off by helping serve up breakfast for dinner at the Hospital General Agustin Ohoran. The hospital is free to all in need and is utilized by people from all over the Yucatan in need of medical attention. Due to space constraints, each patient is allowed one family member in their room at all times, which means whole families are often found camping outside the hospital for the duration of their loved one’s time in care. Our Fluevogologists and their C-Quest companions served up meals of pancakes and fruit to roughly 200 grateful people outside the hospital and were met with smiles and thank-you’s in English, Spanish, and Mayan.
The next day, the team again flexed their pancake-flipping skills, this time serving up breakfast at a small, locally run seniors home called Casa de los Abuelos. The multi-talented Fluevogologists then spent the afternoon making crafts, painting nails, and conversing with the residents of the home as best they could.
Casa de los Abuelos houses seniors who either were previously living on the streets or whose families do not have the means to take care of them. Touched and inspired by Estella, the owner of the home, and her staff, the team was more than happy to donate bags of food, cleaning and medical supplies to the home and their residents.
