Funky Friends of Fluevog: The Curtis Family C-notes

When creative soles meet, it’s a beautiful thing indeed. For Spring/Summer ’26, one of John’s inspirations was the fabulously funky Curtis Family C-notes, a joyful family band from San Francisco known for their original songwriting, multi-instrumental skills, and proclivity for wearing Fluevogs during performances and music videos.

With their sounds of ’60s–’70s Bay Area funk, retro soul, and jazz in mind, John composed the 7th Heaven Curtis, a lace-up derby shoe featuring our iconic crown-shaped tongue.

The fun didn’t stop there! We had the opportunity to film the Curtis Family performing “Living in High Frequency” from their latest album Awaken III right in our Haight Street store (shout out to store manager Denny for the new friends!). If you’re like us and can’t stop singing praises of the C-notes, check out the videos below of the family styling their favourite Vogs from Spring/Summer ’26!

Mama C: I’m Nola Curtis, aka Mama C, and I am styling the Sabrinas.

Papa C: This particular piece that I have on, the coat comes from Distraction. I had some accents put on here that match. This was actually a dress that I found in a shop walking down Haight Street. And so I took it to um my tailor. This is aquamarine. And of course I have on the exquisite Excalibur.

Mama C: I love wearing black. It’s a comfort.

Papa C: She’s obsessed with black!

Mama C: It’s a comfort zone for me. I feel not only protected but strong in in black. My husband actually got this for me at the Alami Flea Market. I really love the turquoise um accents on all over the jacket. Our dear friend Frank Bennett, uh, he found this, uh, vintage piece for me. So, wearing it with the jacket, it kind of it all works together. I love people that have like full body tattoos and like sleeves. These tights kind of make me feel like, ooh, like I feel like a badass in them. And they show off the Sabrinas.

It’s called In the Black and it’s a store where they feature like all kinds of black artists. I chose to style the Orbit because I’ve had this outfit for a while and I wore it with black shoes and I found that these particular shoes matched this outfit really well.

Kiki: What I loved about when I saw these shoes is how much it matched this outfit that I had made. It’s a outfit that I custom painted myself. It’s inspired by this necklace, which also matches the shoes really well. I really wanted to make a Black Panther afro-centric themed outfit. So, on the back, it’s quoted move over or will move over you. It’s a Black Panther quote sign. So, I really wanted to match that. I really love customizing my clothes and a lot of my custom clothes I always pair with flip logs.
