The Peanut Gallery is proud to exhibit Sadia Fakih’s The Feminine Principle.
Sadia’s work stems for the idea of a feminine principle – a created ideal to be analyzed and an indefinite element expressed through paint on photograph. It’s the instant, intimate response of women she knows, or sometimes a self-portrait, which captures and emphasizes a characteristic beauty with a simultaneous destruction.
The layering of paint application helps to re-imagine the photographic portrait of a woman – one where the gaze is returned to and confronts the viewer, or where the muse also becomes the artist/creator, or where vulnerability and empowerment meet and coexist – and through a medium where the disciplines of painting and photography merge.
Sadia is currently attending Alberta College of Art and Design, majoring in Painting. The Feminine Principle will be exhibited at The Peanut Gallery until September 30, 2015.
